Obituary for Lecile Glendell Davis

Lecile Glendell Davis
Lecile Glendell 'LG' Davis, 89, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Elmcroft Senior Living, Houston, Texas.

LG was born on October 17, 1927, in Centre, Alabama, son of Grady and Flora Mae Farrar Davis. He was preceded in death in 2003 by his wife of 54 years, Betty Inez Weatherby. LG's two brothers and their wives and his sister-in-law also preceded him in death, Gerthan and Margie M Davis, Grady JR and Frances Davis, and Gloria J Atchley.

Survivors include his son, David Davis and his wife, Rebecca Kranz, Pearland, Texas; granddaughter, Amber Davis Fowles, and her husband David, Auburndale, Florida. LG enjoyed spending time during the past 3 years with his great granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth. LG loved his girls, and they loved their G and Great G!

LG enlisted in the Navy after high school and was on board the USS Toledo where he traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Haiti, and Japan. He returned to Alabama and married Betty in November 1948. After David was born, the family moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where LG spent 38 years as store manager for Rhodes Furniture.

In 1992, LG and Betty retired to Rainbow City, Alabama, and became active members of First United Methodist Church in Gadsden. He enjoyed retirement by golfing daily, and he and Betty continued traveling with life-long friends making special memories. In 2004, LG became a Texan and moved to Webster, Texas, to be closer to family.

LG had one last adventure as Hurricane Harvey swept across Houston, August 25-29, 2017. The staff of caretakers protected him and 44 other residents as they were forced to evacuate twice to a safe place before returning to their home.

LG was known for his kind, gentle spirit with love in his heart and a sharp wit. His love for Betty and his family was immeasurable. He was a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ, and his life reflected a genuine desire to be invited to spend eternity in Heaven.

Graveside services will be at 11AM at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Gadsden, Saturday, September 16, with a short visitation beginning at 10AM.

Donations can be sent to the charity of your choice, First United Church of Gadsden, or to any of the Hurricane Harvey relief funds as the people of Texas rebuild their lives.
