Obituary for
Jan Lyons
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday for Col. Jan Lyons, 81, of Glencoe, who died Wednesday, June 14, 2017. The Rev. Bruce Gilliland will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Col. Jan Lyons (retired) was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and Gadsden State Community College. He served 38 years in the United States Army and Army Reserves and retired in 1990 as a colonel. He obtained eight college degrees during his military service. He served as a personal escort for Gov. George Wallace and multiple Alabama generals. He worked 30-plus years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., served on Glencoe City Council for four years (1984-1988) and had his own business, "Mr. Fix It" and Lyons Heating and Air after retiring from Goodyear.
He is preceded in death by wife, Frances Walker Lyons; parents, Robert "Bob" Lyons and Opal Lyons; brothers, Lee Lyons, Bee Lyons; and stepdaughter, Glenda White.
He is survived by wife, Hazel Lyons; daughters, Janet Hampton, Debra (Paul) Mitchell and Christi Lyons; grandchildren, Andrea Roberts, Ashley Hampton, Allen Hampton, Lance (Bandera) Kendall, Ashton Kendall, SPC Tyler (Rebecca) Wilbanks, Courtney Wilbanks, Denise (Donnie) Adcock; great grandchildren, Amber (Hunter) Amberson, Trey Adcock, Sierra, Bailey, Ian, Croix and Shelby; sisters, Sara Jane, Dinah, Reba and Peggy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alacare Hospice staff.
