Obituary for David Lamar Tommie

Memorial services for Mr. David L. Tommie age 69 of Gadsden who Died Monday will be 2 pm Thursday at Bellevue Baptist Church. Dr. Steve Trader will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mr. Tommie was born in Calhoun County and moved to Etowah County at the age of 7. He graduated from Gadsden High Class of 1965.He attended J.S.U. and enlisted in The United States Air Force in 1970 and retired from the Air Force in 1990.He then worked at The Etowah County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Judicial Center until he retired in 2010.He was an avid racquetball player, big Alabama fan, enjoyed traveling and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather who adored his family. He was also a deacon and longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by parents Curtis and Beatrice Tommie, Sister Jean Shurling, brother in-law Ed Shurling and nephew Scott Shurling.
He is survived by wife of 46 years Cheryl, children Susan (Steve) Trader, Matthew(Amy) Tommie, grandchildren Stephen David Trader, Susanne Trader, Lily Tommie, in-laws Bonnie and William Turpin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Owen, William Turpin and Stephen Trader.
Special thanks to Kathy Guest, the Elsmore Neighbors and Deacons and congregation at Bellevue Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1 pm until the time of service.
