Zettie Merle Sims (Flowers)
Funeral services for Mrs. Merle Flowers Sims, of Piedmont who passed away surrounded by family Wednesday, February 8th will be Saturday 2 pm at Crestwood Chapel. Dr. Ryan Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
She was born in Marengo County , was a longtime resident of Gadsden, was a member of Hokes Bluff Baptist Church and retired as a teacher.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Minnie Flowers, sisters Frances Barr and Ora Wimberley.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years ,Ralph Sims Sr. ,son Ralph(Liz) Sims Jr., Daughter Diane(Steve) DeBell, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, siblings Billy(Florence )Flowers, Annie Lee(Tom) Dunn and Earl(Mary) Flowers ,many special nieces and nephews and other relatives. Honorary pallbearers will be Hershel Keeton, Jimmy Gidley, and members of The Street Sunday School Class.
Special thanks to Alacare Hospice, Casey Roberts ,First Baptist Homebound Visitors, the members of The Mary Jane Whorton Class and the many who cared for Merle during her extended illness. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1 pm until the time of service.
