Obituary for Annie Mae Freeman (Wilder)

Funeral services will be held at Crestwood Memorial Chapel Sunday at 2:30 pm form Mr. Johnny R. Smith age 95 of Glencoe who passed away peacefully at Meadowood Retirement Village. He will be laid to rest by his mother (Mattie Reese Smith) and father( Newt Wesley Smith) In Crestwood Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was from a large family of 8 brothers and sisters, all have passed away except(Alma Sanders) of Texas. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son Johnny Randall Smith.
He is survived by his loving son Terry Glenn Smith, granddaughter Meashell Clements, great grandchildren, Hayden Clements and Hayley Lancaster, many nieces and nephews including special nephew Joe Cobb.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and well known, He was an excellent football player, played and coached for Glencoe High School. Awarded a scholarship to Auburn University where he injured his Knee after only one year and had to stop playing. He retired from Republic and LTV Steel after 35 years of service.
Mr. Smith was a good man always willing to forsake his own needs for the needs of others. He will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to Joe Cobb, Gentiva Hospice and employees of Meadowood Retirement Village for their help in Mr. Smith’s passing this life on to the next.
The family will receive friends at the funeral Home Sunday from 1 pm until the time of service.
