Obituary for Dorothy Louise Keasler

Dorothy (Dot) Gossett Keasler, age 97, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 in Gadsden, Alabama.

She was born in DeArmanville, Alabama, on March 10, 1919 and lived most of her life in the Gadsden area. She was one of 13 children born to Arthur A. and Frances Gossett.

Dot was preceded in death by Garvis Keasler, her husband of 49 years; her parents; and ten of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son Kent, Hixson, Tennessee; her two grandsons Kary (Terri), Birmingham; Kris, Douglasville, Georgia; two great grandchildren Kirsten (Patrick) Hargrove, Northport; and John Kary, Tuscaloosa. The loves of her life were Kary, Kris, Kirsten and John Kary, and she kept in frequent contact with them. She is also survived by sister, Judy (Harold) Wiley, and brother, Gene (Joyce) Gossett, Hokes Bluff.

She also leaves behind special friends Jeanie Camp, Chattanooga; Kristie Graham, Maxie Johnson, and Myra and Durvyn Howard, of Hokes Bluff. All were loyal and true friends to Dot, and all helped her tremendously.

Dot was a patriotic, conservative, caring, loving lady who absolutely loved her family. One of the highlights of her year was the large family reunion held annually. She enjoyed writing letters and notes, and she stayed in touch with the out of town relatives and friends. She was also an avid sports fan, especially Crimson Tide and enjoyed Braves baseball. She also enjoyed reading, and was very alert and informed on the current news events. She especially enjoyed friends and relatives visiting with her.

She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed it when Kent’s friends came to visit when he was growing up. In addition, a stray dog or cat never went hungry around Dot’s house. In fact, many of the neighbor’s dogs and cats enjoyed taking their regular meals at Dot’s.

Dot was a charter member of Brierwood Baptist Church, and she gave her life to the Lord when she was very young. She frequently talked of her early life, growing up farming, and she never found total closure on the hard working days of chopping and picking cotton.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 1 until 3 P.M. at Crestwood Funeral Home, 2209 East Broad Street, Gadsden, with funeral services to be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 3 P.M. in the Crestwood Chapel. Lauil Thompson, and a true friend for 60+ years, will conduct the services.

Pallbearers will be Ray Gresham, Johnny King, Dr. Ted Jones, Roger Gossett, Kenny Gossett and Braxton Gossett.

Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
